The Circularity Passport – A step towards a zero-waste construction industry
The LEGOFIT project is a pioneer in the Circularity Passport, a digital tool designed to transform the construction industry towards a zero-waste future. By integrating material data, circularity strategies, and sustainability guidelines, this passport enables buildings to maintain their value throughout their lifecycle. It will provide real-time insights on material properties, recycling potential, and reuse strategies, helping architects, engineers, and policymakers make informed decisions. As part of LEGOFIT’s broader efforts to promote Positive Energy Buildings and Districts, the Circularity Passport will play a key role in reducing construction waste, lowering carbon emissions, and supporting the transition to a fully circular economy.
Building a Sustainable Future with Circularity
The construction sector is one of the biggest contributors to global waste and resource depletion. Today, more than ever, we need innovative solutions to transition towards a circular economy, where materials are reused, repurposed, and recycled instead of discarded.
Enter LEGOFIT’s Circularity Passport – a game-changing digital tool designed to drive sustainable construction practices, ensuring that materials and components in buildings maintain their value throughout their entire lifecycle.
What is the Circularity Passport?
Think of it as a material passport for buildings, cataloging everything from construction materials to embedded circularity strategies. It provides essential information about materials’ origin, composition, recyclability, reuse potential, and how they can be reintegrated into new projects after a building reaches the end of its life.
This tool is part of LEGOFIT’s mission to enhance material circularity in the construction sector by:
- Reducing raw material extraction
- Encouraging the reuse and recycling of components
- Extending the lifespan of building materials
- Supporting the transition to Positive Energy Buildings (PEBs) and Positive Energy Districts (PEDs)
How Does the Circularity Passport Work?
The Circularity Passport is fully integrated into LEGOFIT’s Digital Building Logbook, gathering real-time data from different sources to ensure transparency and efficiency in material management. It includes:
- Material Fact Sheets – Detailed data on material properties, durability, and recycling/reuse options.
- Circularity Strategies Catalog – Insights from LEGOFIT pilot projects showcasing innovative circular construction techniques.
- Guidelines for PEBs & PEDs – Clear instructions on how to implement circularity principles in new and renovated buildings.
By combining BIM (Building Information Modeling) and Digital Twin technology, the Circularity Passport will help architects, engineers, and policymakers make data-driven decisions to maximize circularity.
