Partner presentation: CERTIMAC
Certimac is a Research and Certification Body founded and supported by ENEA and CNR, the two main research organizations in Italy. We support industries and public administrations in their technological innovation, energy, and ecological transition processes with laboratory services, research and specialised consultancy to test, certify and improve the performance of materials, buildings and processes. Our areas of expertise: Materials. Energy. Sustainability.

Role of your organization in the project
Thanks to its solid experience in EU, national, and regional research and development projects, Certimac has gained strong expertise and validated innovative solutions in:
- building energy efficiency,
- renovation of existing buildings,
- material sustainability and circular economy,
- building performance monitoring.
In the LEGOFIT project, Certimac leads WP1, “LEGOFIT framework, drivers, assumptions, and potentials,” developing a common framework for EPHs by analyzing policies, regulations, incentives, and technological solutions across different national contexts. This approach enables a clear definition of the three key dimensions of energy-positive buildings: regulatory, financial, and technical.
Certimac plays a key role in evaluating circular solutions by developing Material Passports and the LEGOFIT Circular Building Passport to ensure effective end-of-life strategies for materials and components.
Finally, Certimac contributes to developing guidelines for energy-positive buildings and provides recommendations for certification measures and sustainability protocols, fostering the broad replicability of the LEGOFIT approach.
Why is Legofit important to your organization?
For Certimac, LEGOFIT is a strategic initiative that reinforces our leadership in sustainable building innovation. It directly aligns with our mission by enhancing our expertise in digitalization, material sustainability, and energy performance optimization. Through the development of innovative tools—such as Material and Circular Building Passports —we set new benchmarks in resource efficiency and end-of-life management.
Expectations from LEGOFIT
Certimac expects LEGOFIT to validate and scale the innovative approach to energy-positive residential buildings. We aim to prove the effectiveness of the tools developed and material sustainability strategies through Material and Circular Building Passports. Ultimately, we anticipate that LEGOFIT will accelerate the transition to climate-neutral construction by integrating advanced smart technologies and renewable energy solutions while enhancing stakeholder collaboration across diverse European contexts. This project will serve as a replicable model for the future.
